About Us

History

Since it’s inception in 1927, Malolo Beverages & Supplies, Ltd. has vastly grown while serving Hawaii. The 1927 maiden voyage of a Matson passenger transpacific ocean liner, the S.S. Malolo (Hawaiian Trans: flying fish), was the inspiration for our original moniker, Malolo Soda Works, by the company’s founder, Mr. Chang Chow.

Honorably discharged from his US Army tour of duty in 1946, Mr. Tom Young joined his brother in law in the family business and had the foresight to transform Malolo from a small, local soda pop operation into a statewide disposable foodservice products distributor that grew to become Malolo Beverages & Supplies, Ltd.

Post WWII, sensing the decline of local soda pop manufacturers and the growth of Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola, Tom Young decided to discontinue the soda production. However, Malolo continued to manufacture our trademark concentrated syrups to compliment our growing inventory of disposable foodservice product lines.  With this diverse inventory, we could continue to service the growing drive inn operations in Honolulu, such as (but not limited to) Rainbow Drive Inn, Scotty’s, Kenny’s Burger House, Jolly Roger’s Drive Inn, St. Louis Drive Inn, L&L Drive Inn, lunchwagons and more. We strive to continue serving and expanding our clientele from restaurants, such as Sizzler’s, Anna Millers, Bravo to nationally recognized corporations, 7 /11, Baskin Robbins, Aloha Island Mini-Mart, etc., and to hotels, schools and beyond.

Customer service has continued to motivate Malolo Beverages to grow and strive for excellence in and for the future.  The recent addition of our janitorial and sanitation product lines enables us to better serve Hawaii and meet our overall mission of providing value and services to all our customers as we continue to grow with them.
